Climbers: Dennis, Craig, Tom, Bonnie
Route: Khumbu Region, Everest Base Camp
Trek Description: I departed Seattle alone. Kissing Jazz good bye, praying she would alright for the next three weeks. Not looking forward to the long flight to Asia I’ve taken so many times. After one night in Bangkok and another three and half hour flight. I arrived in Kathmandu on April 3rd. Even after six years since my last trip to Nepal the sights and smells soon became familiar. The ever exciting taxi ride from the airport, the blaring of Hindi music in the background, cows, garbage and finally the hustle of Thamel all brought a smile to my face. I declared “I’m Back”. This mountain Kingdom, a magical place which I’ve spent over a year of my life exploring, brings out some of my best memories. I checked into the Hotel Marsyangdi, not finding anyone in my group, I walked the narrow streets of Thamel which is know as Kathmandu’s main tourist district. I soon came upon Bonnie and Tom as they were window shopping, unexpectedly surprising them, we walked to Durbar Square spying the ancient temples and market places of this mysterious city. That afternoon Craig gave a trip briefing, we organized our gear, met the Sherpa’s from Mountain Tribes and ate Indian cuisine for dinner.
