At 19,341 feet, the ice-capped roof of Mount Kilimanjaro towers high above the African plains. It is an awe-inspiring sight. As the least technical of the famed Seven Summits, Kilimanjaro is an excellent objective for aspiring climbers chasing their first major summit and for trekkers and outdoor enthusiasts of all kinds. Mountain Gurus has an approximately 98% success rate on Kilimanjaro. We take great pride in our ability to offer safe and exciting climbs to the top of Africa’s tallest mountain.
We offer our guests a choice of three different routes to the “Roof of Africa.” Our 9-day expeditions follow the Machame Route to Uhuru Peak, also known as Kibo’s Summit. This is widely considered the most scenic route on the mountain as it traverses from the Shira Plateau Western Breach and Lava Tower to the Barranco Wall under the mountain’s impressive southern glaciers.
Climbers may also choose to approach the summit over the course of 10 days on the Lemosho Route, which allows for an additional night of acclimatization while crossing the vast Shira Plateau before connecting with the Machame Route.
Finally, we offer 8-day itineraries on the less-traveled, but equally scenic and pristine, Rongai Route. The Rongai is considered one of the most direct and least difficult routes on the mountain and may be ascended more quickly.
Our guides are trained professionals and our mountain services are simply fantastic. We are members of the Kilimanjaro Porters Assistance Project (KPAP) because we are committed to paying our porters fair and ethical wages and equipping them with proper gear. Our climbing itineraries may be extended with magnificent safaris to the world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park, famous for their abundant wildlife and unforgettable landscapes.
Lemosho Climb • 8 Days • 7 Nights on the mountain
The Lemosho Climb is the premium route to the summit of Kilimanjaro. It sees less traffic than other routes and offers an incredibly beautiful and pristine wilderness journey including a crossing of the Shira Plateau World Heritage Site. This itinerary features a longer, slower ascent, giving our bodies more time to acclimatize. As such, we have an exceptionally high success rate on this route. Ninety-eight percent of our climbers reach the summit.
Machame Climb • 7 Days • 6 Nights on the mountain
The Machame climb is a more direct route, ideal for aspiring mountaineers whose schedules permit them to spend no more than six nights on the mountain. On this route, we are able to ascend and descend the same trail on summit day, eliminating the need to sleep in the summit crater and lessening the total number of nights we must devote to acclimatization. The Machame Route passes through five distinct ecological zones and some of the most scenic areas on the mountain, including a traverse under the huge hanging glaciers of Kilimanjaro’s steep southern flank.
Rongai Climb • 6 Days • 5 Nights on the mountain
The Rongai Route is considered one of Kilimanjaro’s easiest routes. It routinely sees high success rates, in part because it is relatively short. The route begins on the north side of Kilimanjaro just south of the Kenyan border, traverses the summit, then descends the mountain’s southern flank via the Marangu Trail. It is an excellent way for climbers to see fresh terrain throughout their expedition and experience more of the mountain’s rugged beauty. The Rongai is one of Kilimanjaro’s least traveled routes. It may also be climbed via a 7-day variation to allow more time for acclimatization.
Ngorongoro Safari • 3 Days
Our Mount Kilimanjaro expeditions may be extended by three days to visit three different wildlife parks in the Ngorongoro Highlands in and around the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, a 12-mile-wide basin home to a huge variety of wildlife. We visit Lake Manyara National Park, the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Tarangire National Park. Learn more about our safaris
Serengeti Safari • 5 Days
Or extend your Kilimanjaro expedition by five days to visit the legendary Serengeti after your safari at Ngorongoro. On this itinerary, you’ll enjoy the most outstanding safaris in all of Africa, where countless wildebeest stampede through the ladnscape where mankind began. You’ll discover amazing wildlife and enjoy luxury lodges and tented camps in the national parks of northern Tanzania. Learn more about our safaris

Why climb Mount Kilimanjaro?
What inspires you to climb mountains? Do you want to commune with nature, conquer your fears, challenge yourself or simply explore your planet? Have you set out to scale the Seven Summits?
No matter why you climb, Kilimanjaro is an exceptional destination. Africa’s most famous summit kisses the sky at 19,340 feet and is the planet’s tallest freestanding mountain. While other peaks in the Seven Summits are part of larger mountain ranges, Kilimanjaro stands alone. It is a collection of three dormant stratovolcanoes: Mawenzi, Shira, and the tallest point, Kibo. The flanks of Kilimanjaro host exceptional ecological diversity, and unlike any other Seven Summits expedition, your Kilimanjaro climb can be paired with a safari among the beautiful wildlife of Ngorongoro Crater or the Serengeti.
What can I expect on my Kilimanjaro adventure?
Your adventure will take you from savannah to rainforest to high-altitude heath and heather moors set beneath the glaciers that hang from Kilimanjaro’s summit. On this fully supported trek, you’ll never have to carry more than a light daypack as you climb from the warm African lowlands into the chill of the alpine desert 16,000 feet above the surrounding landscape. On this summit climb, you’ll see a greater diversity of flora, fauna and geology than on any other Seven Summits expedition.
Climbing Kilimanjaro is a rich and diverse experience, and you can expect the finest services throughout your journey. Whether they’re adapting the itinerary to allow sufficient time for acclimatization or ensuring that your meals and drinks are healthful and hygienic, our professional guides and expedition staff will put your safety and enjoyment first and foremost. At Mountain Gurus, we take pride in our ability to provide safe and successful ascents to the Roof of Africa. View a slideshow from our Mount Kilimanjaro climb
How challenging is a Mount Kilimanjaro climb?
The first known ascent of Kilimanjaro occurred in 1889. Since then, untold thousands have attempted to repeat it and many have succeeded. Kilimanjaro is one of the most accessible of the world’s great peaks. This is a formidable trek, but anyone with strong physical fitness, solid endurance and a positive attitude can reach the summit. It is an excellent and awe-inspiring objective for everyone from beginner climbers to the most seasoned trekkers.
Nonetheless, between one-third and one-half of all those who attempt Kilimanjaro fail to reach the summit. That is why it is critical to choose the right guide service. At Mountain Gurus we are proud of our 98 percent success rate on Kilimanjaro’s most beautiful routes.
